Honoring Alberta Truss Merritt
Alberta Truss Merritt is the beloved matriarch of the Family legacy. This page honors her life, her love, and the generations that continue to grow from the foundation she built. Through her children, her legacy lives on in their children, grandchildren, and beyond—spreading strength, unity, and enduring family pride.
Born August 4th,1901, Grandma Alberta Truss was a woman of light, faith, and unwavering devotion to the Most High God. She was the heart of the family—gentle yet strong, quiet yet powerful in her influence. Known as a master baker, she created unforgettable dishes like her famous blackberry pie, chicken dumplings, and signature pineapple pound cake. Her kitchen was a place of warmth, comfort, and love, where every meal felt like home.
Alberta was more than a cook—she was a giver of unconditional love.
Always ready with the best advice, a comforting word, or a long, healing hug, she embodied grace, patience, and wisdom. She taught her family the importance of keeping yourself up, valuing beauty, and carrying yourself with dignity. Her influence inspired generations, including her granddaughter Regina Edwards La Rue, who went on to become a beauty professional and creator of her own cosmetics and hair product line—forever grateful for Alberta’s guidance, love, and example.
Alberta’s favorite color, green, reflects the essence of who she was. Green represents life, growth, balance, and renewal. It speaks to her desire for peace in a chaotic world and her steady, calming presence in every situation. It also reflects ambition and prosperity—values she quietly instilled in her family. To love green, as she did, is to embrace harmony and growth together, for oneself and for others.
Alberta Truss Merritt is remembered as the quiet architect of our cherished traditions and family history. Through her strength, grace, and faith, she taught us the true meaning of resilience, unity, and unconditional love. Though she has gone on to her eternal rest, her spirit continues to guide and bless every generation of her family.

Regina oversees sponsorships & Donations. She is the organizer of the reunion events and announcements via ZOOM, Social Media & Email Blasts. She directs board members and oversees locations, dates, and times for the reunion. She books meetings and helps manage family Prayer Time on Sundays.
Executive chef Antonio Edwards is a top culinary leader who overseas the planning, menu development and construction design for Alberta’s Kitchen opening near the Beach in 2028 Biloxi MS
Amiracle is the Reunion Chairman’s Assistant. She assists with organizing The Legacy of Alberta Truss events. She oversees T-shirt selection and designs for the events and ensures all T-shirt orders are promptly put into production.
The Treasure handles the revenue coming into the Reunion committee, sets the budget, handles accounts payable, and collects registration fees. And make bank deposits into the family reunion bank account.
Eric helps ensure family members are safe and secure during family reunions by working with local authorities who are heard to act as security at all of our major family events.
Laqutia oversees all event layouts and decorations, food selections, designs, and colors for the reunion.
Sous Chef assists the Executive chef and coordinates and selects all the food, drinks, and outside catering services needed for the event. Their in charge of making sure food costs stay within the reunion’s budget.
Our event security helps ensure family members are safe and secure during family reunions.
Event compliant manager helps receive suggestions and concerns related to the reunion.
The food organizer & shopper is in charge of ordering the food and supplies needed for the reunion. They coordinates with the caterers and selects all the food and drinks needed for the reunion. They selects the caterers and makes sure food costs stay within the reunion’s budget.
Event Agent is in charge of booking the DJ’s and Live Bands needed for the reunions. They negotiates with the entertainment to make sure the reunion stays within budget
Acts as the travel and hotel coordinator. Research and secure the most effective and affordable cost for hotel options near the reunion site for family members who are traveling in. They also assist family members who need rides to connect with family they can ride with.
Manages the updates on Social Media and communicates with the web developer to make any updates needed for Reunion website.
Take down all decorations, signage, and tables/chairs. Pack up remaining food and beverages and remove all items from the site. Bag and remove all trash from venue.

There are still volunteer positions available on the Legacy of Alberta Truss Committee, and we are inviting family members to step forward and help make this year’s reunion a success.
We have family events once each year, not just reunions we also have family events, family vacations and family weddings, so planning such a special event requires teamwork, organization, and commitment. By serving on the committee, you’ll work alongside other volunteers to ensure that all reunion activities are planned and completed on time.
